Cinnie Noble- I have been thinking about when I hear someone explaining their rationale for saying or doing something that has upset or provoked me or another person. I realize that at times it sounds like an excuse and at other times it sounds like a reason. You may ask what difference does it make?

Providing reasons or excuses in our conflict interactions often seem to arise during the course of a dispute or after it is over. At these times, we - or the other person - may give a reason or excuse as a way of defending what was said or done (see the previous blog on Justify or Just-Iffy). Jacqueline N. Font-Guzman- In this article I discuss how World Café Dialogues can be used to unveil structural and cultural violence that drive the behaviors that maintain end-of-life care inequalities, especially among minorities, in acute healthcare hospitals. Conflict practitioners are rarely included in conversations of end-of-life care inequalities and when included it is to “solve a problem” through bioethics mediation or provide training in cross-cultural competence. Patricia M Porter- It seems bullying is everywhere. We are actively addressing it in schools, in communities, and in families…and now also workplaces. Over the past several years, there has been a deluge of information about workplace bullying, some accurate and some not so much. In order to effectively address bullying, we need to ensure we have valid and reliable information. In this program, we will put on our researcher hats and examine what we know empirically about workplace bullying in terms of its prevalence, nature, antecedents, and consequences.

Learn more about this as Pattie and Dr. Loraleigh Keashly (associate professor in the Dept. of Communication at Wayne State University) discuss it on the latest program of the Texas Conflict Coach Show.
