When we are in conflict, our experience of it is not something we are always able to articulate. What is really going on for us, to what we are reacting, what we are attributing to ‘the other person’ and so on are often clouded with our emotional responses. Similarly and probably to an even greater degree, we do not have a full sense about where the other person is coming from. We hear their perspective through a lens that is foggy with our own viewpoints, feelings and confusion. Mutuality…Continue

After all – after years of mediating online, and teaching online, designing online processes and writing about relational effects and negotiation aspects of online interaction, I should really internalize the power of the online and the ability of skilled people to humanize it.
Still, Cyberweek always manages to have me shaking my head in amazement...…Continue

I will continue this blog post as time permits.... but I just wanted to report how much insight and pleasure I am getting from reading Bernie Mayer's "Beyond Neutrality". Besides being fascinating, it is also frightening, enlightening, and reassuring because I am an original thinker and I was starting to think that we would all have to go the route of the Neutral Third Party Zombie style of Conflict Engagement. (Note the correction from Conflict Resolution to Conflict Engagement.)
