Duties/Responsibilities: Conflict Management Consultation and Referral for Individual Cases: - Provide
impartial, confidential consultation to members of the University
community who are aggrieved or concerned about an issue. - Help
visitors clarify issues and generate and evaluate options for
resolution of those issues. - Conduct informal fact-finding, when
appropriate, to better understand an issue while maintaining
confidentiality. - Coach individuals in methods to manage their own
conflicts. - When appropriate, foster communication between individuals
involved in a conflict using such techniques as facilitation of group
meetings, shuttle diplomacy, and/or mediation. - Communicate
suggestions and data from people who seek a confidential channel for
surfacing responsible concerns. Organizational and Management
Consultation. - Promote understanding of the role and responsibilities
of the SCRC. - Participate in the development of workshops and learning
materials on conflict management and related topics. - Participate in
the development and communication of an integrated conflict management
system at the University of Minnesota. - Consult with managers,
including faculty, to develop systemic conflict management strategies,
and maintain a network of working associations with relevant conflict
management resources within the university. Office Management: Together
with the other staff, formulate, implement, manage, and monitor the
plans, goals, budget, and programs of the Office. Maintain database on
individual cases and help prepare annual reports. Participate in staff
selection, orientation and ongoing support to other members of the
office.

Required/Preferred Qualifications: Required Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree plus five years full-time
professional work experience as an ombudsman or work in a related field
(e.g., organizational development, mediation, college/university
counseling). - Excellent oral and written communication skills, problem
solving strategic thinking ability. - Demonstrated experience in
facilitation and/or mediation. Ability to view a problem from multiple
perspectives. - Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a
complex organization, with a diverse population. Preferred
Qualifications: - Specific experience as an organizational ombudsman or
neutral, impartial complaint-handler. - Knowledge of the organizational
system of the University of Minnesota. - Master's Degree.
