In connection with this month’s topic, on Thursday August 5, we’ll have the opportunity to hear from Dr. Kenneth Cloke, an author, mediator and the founder of Mediators Beyond Borders.  Ken will be our guest speaker on an ADRhub Webinar on the topic of Climate Change and Conflict Resolution.  Please register for this conference [here], if you haven’t already!

By way of background:  MBB is a non-profit established to partner with communities in troubled locations worldwide to support them to build their capacity to prevent, resolve and heal from conflict.  In relationship to climate change, MBB anticipates (as do many others) that as climate change occurs, conflicts will arise exponentially over increasingly scarce resources.  The question then becomes: “how will those disputes be resolved?”  Some say that the fighting in Darfur in the past five years was the first example of climate change war, of which we can expect to see many if we default to the existing ways of the world.   MBB’s mission with respect to the Climate Change is to promote the inclusion of mediation in Climate Change Treaties to ensure the use of mediation and other peaceful means of resolving climate disputes.  See http://www.mediatorsbeyondborders.org/

For background prior to the call, check out Ken’s excellent climate change slides in the attachment below.
