CALL FOR NOMINATIONS!

ACR INTERNATIONAL

OUSTANDING LEADERSHIP AWARD

Honoring exceptional work promoting conflict resolution in development projects around the world.  The award aims to celebrate leadership by individuals and organizations who work toward peaceful resolutions in their communities and beyond.

The ACR International Section welcomes your nomination of an individual or a group who merit celebration and recognition. Please e-mail your nominations to the Section’s International Development Committee (IDC) atidc.nominations@gmail.com by March 31st.  Please send brief answers to the questions below*.

2) Brief description of nominee and their work.

3) Briefly describe why you think this nominee merits the award.

4) Please include any links to websites, publications, videos or references that could help us know the nominee better.

5) If selected, would the nominee be available to attend and speak at International Day on October 9th, 2013 during the ACR conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S.A.?

 

Past ACR International Outstanding Leadership Awardees

2006 – Judge Gladys Alvarez (Argentina) for her successful efforts to spread mediation throughout Latin America.

2007 Partners for Democratic Change (U.S.A.) for the organization’s work building sustainable local capacity to advance civil society and a culture of change and conflict management worldwide.

2008 – Shamil Fattakhov (Russia) for his leadership in promoting creative processes with youth and adults throughout the globe, through his interactive performance program, ZIPoPo.

2009 – The first year that two awards were given, one individual and one to an organization. Mr. Adi Gavrila (Romania), founding member and manager of Craiova Mediation Center and president of the Romanian Mediation Centers Union, for his extraordinary work navigating a complex political environment to advance alternative dispute resolution in Romania. Search for Common Ground (U.S.A.)was selected for its continuous work in challenging international environments, social entrepreneurship, and creative use of media toward managing conflict more constructively.

2010 – Sister Pauline Acayo (Uganda), head of Catholic Relief Services (CRS) in Uganda’s Northern Region for work in reintegrating child soldiers and former abductees to their communities through traditional reconciliation methods. Meta-Culture (India), a conflict management organization for making significant inroads in promoting conflict resolution through partnerships with communities, NGOs, governments, academic and faith-based institutions throughout India.

2011 – George Gachara (Kenya), a young leader, author, and co-founder of Picha Mtaani, for creating a safe space for young people to dialogue about post-election violence in Kenya. EcoPeace/Friends of the Earth Middle East (Jordan/Palestine/Israel), a regional organization bringing together Jordanian, Palestinian and Israeli environmentalists, for promoting sustainable development and advancing peace efforts in the Middle East.

2012 Lada Busevac (Bosnia & Herzegovina), Senior Country Officer for the International Finance Corporation in B&H whose international team promotes and sets up mediation in countries around the world. MiKK, a non-profit organization specializing in international family disputes, particularly cross-border child abduction cases.

ACR’s International Day is the year’s premier event for conflict resolution professionals with a global focus. Leaders in the field will offer interactive sessions and presentations on managing conflicts around international development, better practice in peace building and cross-cultural communication. International Day will be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S.A. on October 9th, 2013 at the start of ACR’s 13th Annual Conference. This year, the International Section is partnering with the Environment and Public Policy Section on International Day and other projects.
