POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: CERTIFICATE PROGRAM COORDINATOR
The National Peace Academy (NPA) is searching for a Certificate Program Coordinator (part-time). The position will be located at the NPA Education Office in New York City and has the potential to become full-time in 2012.
The National Peace Academy supports, advances, and nurtures cultures of peace by preparing the next generation of peacebuilders who will bring their unique background to communities and the corporate, nonprofit, and government workplace. Through its learning programs the NPA supports the development of the full spectrum of the peacebuilder – inner and outer, personal and professional – and facilitate the development of peace systems – local to global.
The ideal Certificate Program Coordinator will support and model the vision of the National Peace Academy—including our working and management model of shared leadership and shared responsibility within our common purpose and our principle of working within and building right relationships.
Responsibilities:
The Certificate Program Coordinator will play a vital role in the ongoing development and management of the National Peace Academy’s newest program: the National Peacebuilding Peacelearning Certificate Program (National Certificate Program). The National Certificate Program is a collaborative learning program designed to catalyze education for peace on a macro scale by drawing upon the existing body of peace resources, knowledge and experiences that already exist in formal, non-formal and informal educational institutions across the country. It is comprised of accessible and affordable short courses offered in partnership with universities, NGOs, and community organizations. The program is guided by a framework designed to assure a holistic and comprehensive introduction to peacebuilding and peacelearning in theory and practice. It allows participants to pursue an individualized course of study, taking a series of short courses that will help them achieve depth in knowledge and skills they need to achieve their personal and professional goals and interests. The National Certificate Program is now in a piloting phase with plans for a full-scale launch in January 2012.
Specific responsibilities of the Certificate Program Coordinator:
· Contribute to and support design of program infrastructure including management of essential databases for student tracking and communication.
· Manage course registration and student fee collection.
· Establish and maintain effective procedures for partner relations.
· Contribute to and implement innovative and cost-effective marketing, outreach and social networking plan to promote programs and individual courses.
· Maintain effective communication with public, partners, and students.
· Participate in regular National Peace Academy staff meetings and conference calls.
· Support other National Peace Academy programs as necessary.
· Available minimum of 2 days a week at the Manhattan Education Office.
Qualifications:
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field and/or equivalent experience.
· Alignment with purpose, principles, and processes of the National Peace Academy.
· 2-4 years experience working in nonprofit or educational organizations.
· Familiarity with or background in peace studies or peace education.
· Able to take initiative and work in a team environment within National Peace Academy’s shared leadership/shared responsibility model.
· Comfort in working both independently and virtually.
· Positive, creative attitude toward problem solving.
· Able to maintain both big picture perspective and attention to detail.
· Able to multi-task when necessary.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
