Coastal Promise Humanitarian and Peacebuilding Field Simulation

The Forage Center for Peacebuilding and Humanitarian Education, Inc. will host Coastal Promise – Maryland in Garrett County, Maryland September 20-23, 2018. Coastal Promise is a full-scale 4-day field training exercise. The exercise recreates the challenges and conditions professionals encounter in complex emergencies characterized by conflict, disaster, and humanitarian need. During the exercise, participants, act as members of a non-governmental organization engage in intensive negotiations, humanitarian assistance, peacebuilding assessment, and human rights advocacy as part of a scenario based on a realistic conflict or humanitarian crisis.


Applicants must be 18 years of age, and can come from any field or discipline. To attend the event, the applicant must have had completed an undergraduate bachelor's degree (or equivalent at a foreign institution). It is also recommended (but not required) that applicants be currently either working in an area where humanitarian, emergency management, global health, conflict resolution or peacebuilding skills are demanded or are interested in these areas professionally. Those without an undergraduate bachelor's degree may apply for a provisional approval if they demonstrate an equivalent amount of hours of practice in a field related to humanitarian assistance.


The fee is $700 for part-time or full-time students and $1,000 for working professionals. Apply at www.foragecenter.org by 9/7/18.
