Lecturer in Discipline – Negotiation and Conflict Resolution

The Columbia University, School of Continuing Education (SCE) invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Lecturer in Discipline, effective July 1, 2014. The Lecturer will teach graduate-level courses in SCE's MS Program in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution.

The Program seeks an individual with a vibrant portfolio of academic study, experience and publications in one or more of the following disciplines: conflict resolution, international relations, political science, social psychology, communication or other related field. Candidates should have extensive leadership experience applying these disciplines across a wide spectrum of industries/sectors; substantial teaching experience; and deep and demonstrated understanding of the academic and applied trends that are driving best practice and research in this emerging cross-disciplinary field of study.

Responsibilities will include teaching and advising in the MS Program and related programming areas; active participation in curriculum and program development and evaluation; faculty recruitment and evaluation; participation in the development and execution of strategies to support program area students as they transition from prospect to alum; and academic and career advising to support the academic needs and professional aspirations of the MS students.

The successful candidate must be capable of contributing to the program's academic mission, and demonstrate the potential for vision and direction that will be required for all aspects of the position. International teaching and/or professional experience is preferred but not required.

Minimum Degree Required: PhD

Minimum Qualifications:

All applicants MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered for the position. Candidates for the SCE Lecturer in Discipline position must have a PhD in an appropriate field. Candidates must have made, and show promise of continuing to make, significant contributions to their areas of professional practice and accompanying pedagogy. Graduate-level teaching experience required. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

- Knowledge of a broad base of theoretical disciplines that inform conflict resolution and peace building.

- 8+ years teaching experience in a university setting, preferably at the graduate level.

- Experience conducting applied research.

- 8+ years working in the field of conflict resolution, non-violence, peace building.

- Peer-reviewed publications.

- Global professional and/or teaching experience.
