Conflict Resolution Instructors - PAZ After-School program - New York


The PAZ After-School program is looking for Conflict Resolution Instructors to teach at P.S. 214 in West Farms area of the Bronx. Full job description follows. We are looking for people to teach 5th-8th grade. Much of the curriculum will be provided by The Morningside Center for Teaching Social Responsibility’s ‘Resolving Conflict Creatively’ program, and their 4Rs After-School kit. We will provide training in these curricula for our new CR instructors.


The job is two hours per day (2 one- hour lessons), 4 days a week. Pay is $20-25 per hour depending on experience.

A sense of humor is a must! Bilingual (English-Spanish) also preferred. Applicants should have a strong background in mediation/conflict resolution, and experience teaching and working with youth. DoE certified teacher preferred.

PAZ: Peace from A-Z After-School Program Conflict Resolution Instructor

The PAZ After-School Program aims to develop youngsters’ (5th-8th grade) academic, social, and physical competence through activities in conflict resolution, reading and writing, cooperative games and sports, and community service. We will create a safe environment where children can have fun participating in a variety of enriching extended day activities.

As part of this partnership, Specialists are responsible for:

Organizing and preparing two one- hour lessons for groups of 15 children in the areas of mediation/ team-building/anti-bias/conflict resolution/non-violence/socio- emotional learning

Incorporating P.S. 214’s Behavioral Philosophy into your after-school classroom behavior plan. (We will respect ourselves as well as others. We will respect our school environment. We will use Conflict Resolution strategies to resolve our conflicts. We will all be active learners.)

Communicating issues, concerns, suggestions to the site coordinator


Involving the counselor or assistant assigned to your group in the instruction of your lessons

Modeling behavior that reflects understanding of conflict resolution principles for students, staff, and parents.

Collaborating with other PAZ staff on larger group projects with the students

Assisting in the production of culminating events


Knowing and following any written procedures for basic administrative and housekeeping tasks (i.e., recording attendance, care of the classroom and school property, recording and reporting of incidents, etc.) as required.

Attending training sessions provided by The Morningside Center for Teaching Social Responsibility and/ or The After-School Corporation

Conflict Resolution teachers report directly to the After-School Program Director. PAZ is a collaboration between The Morningside Center for Teaching Social Responsibility, TASC, and P.S. 214 in the Bronx.

Additional Qualifications:

Bilingual (English - Spanish) preferred.
Sense of humor and patience a must!
