Job: Director of Mediation Services - Jamaica, Queens

Community Mediation Services, Inc. (CMS), a not-for-profit agency based in Jamaica, Queens, is currently searching for a Director of Mediation Services.

 

This hands-on position requires a mature, poised individual who possesses the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to manage all aspects of mediation services with a high level of professionalism, competency, and efficiency.   Candidates seeking this position should be highly motivated, self-directed with strong leadership qualities, creative and have strong communication, presentation and writing skills.

 

Other job requirements include significant experience dealing with conflict and family dynamics, and a working knowledge of court processes.  All applicants must possess a demonstrated commitment to mediation, a willingness to engage in all phases of case management and programmatic development, and an ability to foster client education and empowerment.

 

Responsibilities will include:

  • The successful candidate will monitor, assign, coordinate, evaluate, review, lead and supervise the work activities and staff resources of a team consisting of paraprofessionals, interns and support staff employees
  • This position works closely with the Executive Director in supervising staff, mediator rosters and quality assurance protocols to ensure delivery of the highest quality mediation services
  • Recruitment, training and retention of mediators, including developing a training marketing strategy and plan
  • Establish and maintain effective communications with supporting and/or complimentary community and social service programs
  • Organize and compile monthly and quarterly statistical data for reporting to funding sources
  • Manage all client issues, including questions, complaints, compliance, and related concerns
  • Develop and foster community outreach and resources
  • Evaluate team and program performance and recommend improvements in operating procedures, work processes or administrative practices
  • Develops team goals, implements operating procedures, conducts fiscal performance evaluations with team members, determines staff and mediator training needs, arranges for and conducts staff and mediator training programs, mentors and coaches staff and mediators, and provides direction and feedback
  • The Director also performs other agency functions and other supervisory duties as required.

 

Qualifications:

Master's or Law degree preferred.  A demonstrated commitment to conflict resolution and mediation is necessary.  Excellent interpersonal skills and organizational skills are required.  Experience in mediating disputes is required.  Bi-lingual ability is a plus.  The candidate should be an independent worker and be flexible to meet the needs of a non-profit environment.  CMS is an Equal Opportunity Employer and offers an excellent compensation and benefits package.
