Foreclosure mediation program dies in Southwest Florida
(News-press.com) Local residents facing foreclosure will have no mediation program to take the place of a mandatory state program terminated Monday by the state Supreme Court – at least for the near future.
That means those in the process of losing their homes will have options of going it alone with their lender in seeking mediation; going with a private mediator who will charge at least $200 by the hour; do nothing and let the foreclosure proceed without contesting it; or, if they have a Fannie Mae loan, opt for a mediation program run by a nonprofit think tank.
