Training Director - NY Peace Institute


Summary:

The Training Director is responsible for the strategic planning, operation and growth of New York Peace Institute's Training Center. S/he will oversee all activity related to trainings. The Training Director is a member of the Senior Management Team and supervises two direct reports, as well as a group of mentors.

New York Peace Institute is one of the nation's largest community dispute resolution centers, touching the lives of more than 10,000 people each year, by providing free mediation services and restorative justice programs, credentialing mediators, and providing training to community groups, government agencies, international organizations, and academia. About the Training Center

Our Training Center is an essential part of our organization, providing vital communication, conflict resolution, leadership and other skills locally and internationally. New York Peace Institute's approach to training reflects our creative, interactive learn-by-doing philosophy, with the goal of embedding peacebuilding skills in all sectors of society. Our Training Center has worked with the United Nations, local community groups, and government agencies, in New York City, as well as in Jordan, Kenya, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and other countries. In addition, the Training Center is key to New York Peace Institute's fiscal sustainability, through generating fee-based income to strengthen our community-based initiatives.

Essential Job Functions:

 

Strategic Planning and Visioning

  • ·         Build the vision and strategy for the Training Center in line with NYPI's mission, vision, and programs, in collaboration with CEO and members of Senior Management
  • ·         Serve as a member of Senior Management and inform organizational strategy, policies and procedures

 

Cultivate and Manage Training Contracts

  • ·         Establish and meet annual Training Center income goals
  • ·         Develop and operationalize training revenue growth strategy, in collaboration with CEO
  • ·         Manage client relationships and training contracts
  • ·         Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with external training providers
  • ·         Develop and disseminate training marketing materials
  • ·         Hire and train support staff for Training Center

 

Design and Deliver Training

  • ·         Design and enhance training curriculum
  • ·         Facilitate internal and external trainings
  • ·         Oversee the Mediation Apprenticeship Program
  • ·         Train and supervise Apprenticeship Program Mentors
  • ·         Oversee logistical operations for all fee-based trainings, with support from Administrative Assistant
  • ·         Offer evaluation and curriculum development support for all specialized program area trainings
  • ·         Collaborate with Director of Programs and Program Coordinators to determine if training support is required
  • ·         Lead efforts to strengthen program area training as needed

 

Evaluate Fee-Based Training Programs

  • ·         Collect and integrate trainee feedback to maintain/enhance program quality
  • ·         Develop and/or enhance training curriculum and other tools

 

Supervisory Support

  • ·         Provide regular support to Manager of Mediator Education, Administrative Assistant, and Apprenticeship Program mentors

 

Required Qualifications:

  • ·         5+ years conducting skills-based training
  • ·         Experience designing training curriculum
  • ·         Experience working in conflict resolution or related fields
  • ·         Demonstrated ability to generate income through fee-based training
  • ·         Experience managing fee-based training contracts
  • ·         Supervisory experience
  • ·         Excellent attention to detail
  • ·         Demonstrated ability to multi-task
  • ·         Ability to self-direct, with a high sense of accountability
  • ·         Excellent communication skills
  • ·         Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and Google docs
  • ·         B.A. required

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ·         Knowledge of mediation
  • ·         Previous experience working in nonprofit sector
  • ·         Experience serving as a member of a Senior Leadership Team
