Mediation cuts dispute resolution costs, says Chief Justice

In the 30th Anniversary Conference of the Legal Aid Board, Irish Chief
Justice John Murray told the board the government should "foster and promote a professional mediation service and alter the perception of the courts as the first and only resort for dispute resolution"

With each economy cautiously gaining momentum towards recovery, Murray was sure to explain that a government program would not require much cost, and would save money in the long run.

Most notably, urging alternative dispute resolution would help those in family law disputes, given that "litigation can exacerbate the existing difficulties arising from a breakdown in family
relationships."
