Junior Fellow and Research Assistants

The Humanitarian Intervention Centre is seeking to recruit Junior Fellows and Research Assistants in a number of its research areas to support its growth and development. We are looking for motivated, hardworking and enthusiastic individuals with the drive to work independently in an exciting environment. In return, you will work closely with and receive feedback from our senior staff and benefit from our extensive national and international contacts.

We are particularly interested to hear from individuals with knowledge and research experience in the following areas:

-       International law

-       Human rights

-       Russia and the Eurasia region (including politics, security, conflict and foreign policy issues)

-       The Asia-Pacific region (including politics, security, conflict and foreign policy issues)

-       South and Central America (including politics, security, conflict and foreign policy issues)

-       Security and defence policy (thematic and not regional specific)

-       The Middle East region (Hebrew speaker preferable)

We are however also interested to receive applications from candidates with knowledge and experience outside of these specific areas but which  are in line with the organisation’s research interests.

Junior Fellows and Research Assistants should have an excellent academic record, be able to demonstrate a strong knowledge of, and commitment to, their subject area, have experience of conducting independent research and be capable of producing high quality written material. The ability to self-motivate, be flexible, work with discipline and within a team are also essential qualities for these roles.

Junior Fellows will be given the opportunity to pursue their own research interests but will also be required to contribute to larger projects. Research Assistants will be expected to support the work of the Junior and Senior Fellows by carrying out specific research tasks as requested and contributing to research projects. Research Assistants will however also have the opportunity to pursue their own research interests and will be encouraged and supported to do so.

All positions are voluntary and no remuneration should be expected. Candidates are expected to be able to commit 10 hours per week to the role and will be required to produce at least one short research article per month.

Policy Unit Research Assistants

The Humanitarian Intervention Centre is seeking to recruit four Research Assistants for its Policy Briefings Unit to support its continued expansion and development. The Policy Briefings Unit undertakes research on a wide variety of policy issues, particularly in the areas of foreign affairs, foreign policy, human rights and armed conflict and produces policy briefings for dissemination.

Research Assistants will work under the supervision of the leader of the Policy Briefings Unit and will be required to carry out specific research tasks as directed, usually in the individual’s area of specialism, and also contribute to the policy briefing documents. Research Assistants will also have the opportunity to pursue their own research interests, contribute to larger multidisciplinary projects and collaborate with other junior and senior members of the organisation.

We are particularly interested to hear from candidates with a foreign policy or conflict studies background and who have significant academic and policy research experience in these areas. Candidates with knowledge and experience in other areas will however also be considered.

Media and Public Relations Manager

The Humanitarian Intervention Centre is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and professional individual with experience of media and public relations to undertake and develop a new and exciting role. The individual will be responsible for developing, implementing and managing the organisation’s media and public relations strategy as well as assisting with external communications. The successful candidate will work closely with the organisation’s Directors and will have the opportunity to input into executive decision making.

The role would suit a recent graduate with experience of working in a professional media and public relations environment and who is keen to take on the challenge and responsibility that this role offers. It is essential that the individual has a good academic record, professional experience, the ability to work independently, flexibly and with discipline and is able to operate within a collaborative environment. It is desirable that the individual has a strong interest in, and an understanding of, foreign affairs and policy particularly in relation to security and defence, global governance, human rights and conflict resolution.

This will be a challenging and demanding role but in return you will have the opportunity to work for a young but rapidly growing organisation. You will have lots of responsibility and the opportunity work closely with our senior staff and benefit from our extensive national and international contacts.
