Retired New York Court of Appeals Judge Hon. George Bundy Smith, Sr. Joins JAMS

JAMS, the largest private provider of mediation and arbitration services worldwide, today announced the addition of Hon. George Bundy Smith, Sr. (Ret.) to its panel. Judge Smith will be based in the JAMS New York Resolution Center. He will specialize as an arbitrator, mediator and special master for disputes in a variety of areas including Appellate, Business/Commercial, Civil Rights, Environmental, Estates/Probates/Trusts, Insurance, Personal Injury/Torts, Real Property and Tribal (Native American).

 

Judge Smith served as an Associate Judge of the New York Court of Appeals, the state’s highest court, for 14 years until his retirement in September 2006. Following his retirement from the bench, he joined Chadbourne & Park, LLP as a partner where he specializes in litigation and ADR. From 1987 until 1992, he was an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Department and from 1980 to 1986 was a Justice of the Supreme Court of the State of New York. He will continue to stay on as a partner at Chadbourne.

Judge Smith graduated with his B.A. and LL.B. from Yale University. He also has an M.A. and a Ph.D. from New York University and an LL.M. from the University of Virginia School of Law.
