Position: Senior Mediator/Development Leader

RESOLVE, a non-profit organization in Washington, DC is seeking a Senior Mediator/Development Leader interested in collaboration, mentoring junior staff, and developing resources to advance the mission. We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience and/or interest in food safety and sustainability, public health infrastructure and systems, and environmental health.

 

Organization Overview:

RESOLVE is an independent organization focused on helping diverse groups build strong enduring solutions to solve health, social, and environmental problems through collaboration. We help community, business, government, foundations, and NGO leaders get results and create lasting relationships through collaboration. We are based in Washington DC and work on local, regional, national, and international projects. Our projects focus on healthy people and communities, clean air and water, resilient ecosystems, smart energy, sustainable development, and natural resource conflicts.

 

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a master’s degree or equivalent experience in conflict resolution, public policy, health or environmental arena. Applicants must be able to demonstrate 2-5 years of successful fundraising experience. Applicants must also have experience leading and managing development initiatives.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Collaboration and consensus building: develop relationships with stakeholders design collaboration approaches, facilitate and mediate collaborative and consensus building projects;
  • Project management: Develop and manage complex project budgets, teams, timelines and milestones, manage project teams, and produce project reports;
  • Program and strategic development: Develop projects in strategic areas, and contribute to RESOLVE’s leadership in target areas;
  • Organizational development: Supervise and mentor program staff, manage staff workloads, professional development, and performance;
  • Business and resource development; Develop financially viable stream of projects in target areas;
  • Fundraising and development; work with President and senior staff to develop and implement a fundraising and development program focused on foundation, individual, and corporate donors. Oversee foundation tracking and donor stewardship systems, and develop and maintain donor outreach and foundation reports.

 

Competencies:

We are looking for a Senior Mediator/Development Leader with demonstrated knowledge, skills, and experience, and referrals that attest to:

 

Knowledge

  • Mastery of group dynamics, collaboration, and consensus building theories and practices;
  • Understanding of public policy context and processes and the role of different groups in agenda setting, advocacy, and problem solving;
  • Understanding of science and technical information in environment, environmental health and public health issues.

 

Skills

1.       Excellent organizational and analytical skills;

2.       Excellent interpersonal and communication skills—with an ability to lead groups with confidence and composure;

3.       Excellent writing and editing skills;

4.       Proficiency with databases, spreadsheets, online tools, and social media;

5.       Ability to balance many projects and priorities simultaneously;

6.       Ability to take initiative and lead projects ethically, on scope, and budget with attention to highest quality and detail.

7.       Demonstrated grasp of dispute resolution concepts;

8.       Ability to see all sides of a topic and stay neutral;

9.       Ability to listen actively;

10.   Ability to sequence group discussions and activities;

11.   Ability to translate positions to interests.

12.   Excellent strategic and planning skills;

13.   Effective oral and written communication and analytical skills

14.  A demonstrated capacity to articulate a project case to funders—both orally and in written materials.

 

This staff person reports to RESOLVE Vice President of Programs and Practice and works closely with other senior staff to advance RESOLVE’s mission and impact by leading collaborative projects, developing projects and partnerships that match RESOLVE’s issues foci, leading organizational teams, supporting organizational learning, and securing the resources necessary to support their work and the work of others. The staff person will also work with the President and other senior staff to secure foundation and donor resources.
