10-Hour Update on Power Imbalances and Family Violence

Description Note: CPD credit renewal pending. The following is based on previous accreditation. This program has been accredited by the Law Society for 4.25 Professionalism Hours and 4.75 Substantive hours. This one-day intensive program is designed to provide the bi-annual training on “screening for power imbalances” in arbitration as required by Ontario’s Ministry of the Attorney General. Using lectures, real case studies, statute and case law review, social science research and precedents, students will be introduced to:

  • Statistics on post-separation violence and lethality
  • Domestic Violence Death Review Committee Report
  • Updated research on addressing imbalances of negotiation power
  • Updated research on use of various screening tools
  • Best practices for screening for mediation, med-arb and arbitration
  • Update on family arbitration case law

Registration for courses closes April 4th, 2014. A 15% admin fee (plus HST) will be charged on cancellations; and no refunds are payable within seven business days of the course. Full payment is due before registration can be confirmed.
