I am addicted to the "magic moment" when the parties see each other's view, put anger behind, forgive and reconcile. I know it doesn't happen every time, and so I don't expect it, but I'm fortunate that it happens a lot of the time in my practice. Indeed, speaking of failures or times when it doesn't happen: Remember the bumper sticker that "A bad day fishing is better than a good day at the office"? Well, that's about how I feel about the mediation / interest based paradigm of conflict resolution, as compared with litigation.
