What is your ADR experience? (trainings and education)
Elizabeth Esrey has been a professional mediator for more than 20 years, working on numerous civil, community, corporate and family mediations. Helping people and businesses resolve their differences is her passion. As a certified mediator and mediator trainer, Elizabeth has taught mediation to law and business school students, attorneys, judges, business executives, social workers and educators.
In Chicago, Mrs. Esrey served as a mediator and volunteer coordinator the Chicago Bar Association’s Center for Conflict Resolution (CCR). At CCR, Elizabeth trained lawyers, judges, business executives and community organizers in mediation. She was a consultant to the Utah State Bar Association in developing their mediation program. Elizabeth helped implement peer mediation programs for the Chicago Public Schools. She taught alternative dispute resolution (ADR) classes to HR executives at IBM, Quaker Oats and Allstate. She trained local law school students and Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Business MBA students in ADR. In 1997, Elizabeth was selected to serve with a cadre of mediators working with South African community leaders on ways to use mediation as a means to process grievances suffered under apartheid with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. In California’s Marin County, Mrs. Esrey worked with families and schools mediating educational issues. She served as a mediator for Kansas City, Missouri’s Human Relations’ Department and, currently volunteers for Johnson County’s small claims court mediation program. Elizabeth coaches students getting their mediation certificate training through Johnson County Community College. She helped facilitate one of Governor Brownback’s town hall meetings regarding childhood poverty. She holds mediation certificates from Illinois, California and Kansas. She has several advanced training certificates in mediation and negotiation and continues to take classes in alternative dispute resolution. Elizabeth is a member of Heartland Mediators’ Association.
Elizabeth earned a Master’s degree in Special Education and worked as an education consultant and teacher. As a special educator, Elizabeth designed, implemented and evaluated IEPs (Individual Education Plans). She tested students for learning strengths and discrepancies. Elizabeth trained teachers and students in conflict resolution and mediation. She mediates due process cases for the State of Kansas and Missouri.
