ACR Blog Radio - Mediating the Same-Sex Dissolution (Annual Conference Workshop sneak peek!)

Tune in Wednesday, July 17 at 4:30 pm Eastern time for our upcoming show featuring an  ACR Annual Conference Workshop Preview - Frederick Hertz's session titled "Mediating the Same-Sex Dissolution: Competence, Sensitivity and Effectiveness in a New Legal World."

With all the excitement about the Supreme Court decisions extending federal benefits to same-sex married couples and the re-opening of the marriage door in California, mediators are already wondering what this means for the practice of mediating same-sex dissolutions.  More than just a new source of business, these disputes will challenge mediators to learn new skills, develop their cultural competency, and figure out how best to work in this new environment.  Frederick Herts has more than 30 years experience working with same-sex couples, and is a leading mediator of same-sex disssolutions - both married and unmarried.  His presentation will review the unique legal complications of these break-ups, as well as the social and cultural dimensions that every mediator needs to understand - including the touchiest of questions: does the mediator need to be gay or lesbian in order to handle this matters? The session will take place Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 2pm at the ACR Annual Conference.
