Chicago – JAMS, the largest private provider of mediation andarbitration services worldwide, today announced the addition of Hon. Dennis J. Burke (Ret.) to its panel. Judge Burke will be based in the JAMS Chicago Resolution Center. He will serve as an arbitrator, mediator and special master for disputes in a variety of areas including Business/Commercial, Construction, Employment and Personal Injury/Torts.

Judge Burke spent 15 years serving on the Circuit Court of Cook County bench where he conducted nearly 1,800 settlement conferences while concurrently presiding over 700 commercial cases and conducting law jury trials.  An early advocate for dispute resolution, he created a program called “Mediation for Discovery Purposes Only,” where he appointed an outside mediator to resolve discovery disputes. The program is still being utilized by many judges in the Cook County Circuit Courts.

“Judge Burke is highly regarded for his ability to build rapport and trust with all parties and for his exceptional skills in crafting settlements,” said Chris Poole, JAMS president and CEO. “His long-standing commitment to dispute resolution makes him an excellent addition to the Chicago panel.”

“My time on the bench gave me the skills and foundation I needed to move into this next phase of my career,” said Judge Burke. “I look forward to continue doing ADR work and joining the excellent JAMS panel in Chicago.”

Judge Burke graduated with his B.A. from St. Mary’s University in Minnesota and earned his J.D. from John Marshall Law School in Illinois.
