Fifth Annual Warren Knight Award Presented to the Center for Conflict Resolution

April 5, 2013

Chicago – The JAMS Foundation’s Fifth Annual Warren Knight Award will be presented to the Center for Conflict Resolution in Chicago, along with a $25,000 grant. The award recognizes the work CCR has done with individuals, communities, courts and other institutions to manage and resolve conflicts. The organization received the award at the ABA Dispute Resolution Conference in Chicago.

CCR is one of the most respected and successful community dispute resolution centers in the United States. Established more than 30 years ago as the Neighborhood Justice of Chicago by the Young Lawyers Section of the Chicago Bar Association, it has provided nationally recognized mediation training to thousands of individuals. It designs customized conflict management consulting to organizations and provides resolution services through a variety of court-referred programs, including civil, criminal, juvenile, guardianship and mortgage foreclosure disputes, as well as creates a range of specialized programs in the areas of employment, family law, public policy, healthcare, elder care, at-risk youth and community engagement.

“We are humbled by the generosity, support and recognition that the JAMS Foundation has provided to CCR,” said Carolyn Amadon, executive director of CCR. “This grant will continue our work of helping people in conflict learn the skills necessary to create their own resolutions.”

“CCR is one of the most well-known ADR centers in the country and the JAMS Foundation is proud to support them,” said Jay Folberg, chair of the JAMS Foundation. “We know this grant will provide access to and increase awareness of conflict prevention programs in their community.”

Hon. H. Warren Knight (Ret.) was the founder of JAMS, which he created in January 1979. Judge Knight was considered a pioneer in the ADR and legal communities and was instrumental in introducing and furthering ADR, including mediation and arbitration, within the legal community in California and throughout the United States.
