Let me guess, you run your own company, you do the books, the marketing, the administrative work, and you have to actually do your job on top of that.  You have your social life, your home life, and you're in charge of walking the dog.  You think to yourself regularly, "Man...I wish there were 26 hours in a day." You got to take care of yourself, eat, go to the gym, take your partner on a date, spend time with the kids, the list goes on and on and on.  You have no time to use Social Media.  None.

Bullshit

Yep...bullshit, I don't believe you that you have no time.  A few weeks back I talked with John Morgan about what it takes to Brand Against the Machine and I asked him about this myth (It's around the 10 minute mark in the video here).  Here's what John also had to say in his book Brand Against the Machine :

Get over yourself! You are not too busy.  Everyone has 15 minutes here and there throughout any given week.  You can start somewhere. Morning, evening, or whatever.  Find what works for you and go with it.  Marc Cuban is a billionaire and involved in multiple businesses including being the owner of the Dallas Mavericks basketball team.  He's obviously very busy day in and day out, yet even he tweets 74 times a month on average.  You have no excuse.

Here's the thing - we're all busy...well...we all say we're really busy at least.  There is time though...think about your day, from the time you wake up to the time you go to bed.  Write down everything you do that keeps you so busy.  Now see if you can plug in to your schedule 3-4 times a day a time where you spend 15 minutes online.  That's it...15 minutes...if you do this 3 - 4 times in a day you've just spent about 45 minutes to 1 hour in a span of your day.  You take coffee breaks right? You take the time to get up from your desk and walk around? Spend some of that stretch time to send out a Facebook post, engage on Twitter, spend some time on the site of your choice in small doses. You won't even notice it!

So here is how it looks:

  1. Write down your daily activities
  2. Cross off the ones that create no meaning for your life or business
  3. Spend 15 minutes on your choice of online platforms for 3-4 times a day (if that's too much try 10 minutes)
  4. Engage, Engage, Engage

Try it out for ONE week, see how you do, see if anything catches your interest.  Let me know how it goes for you!
