On April 10, 2013 at 1:30 pm EST we will present a 15-min radio show episode featuring 2013 ACR Annual Conference Keynote Speaker Grande Lum. Mr. Lum is the new Director of the United States Department of Justice Community Relations Program. The show will preview Mr. Lum’s session at the ACR Annual Conference and what the United States Department of Justice Community Relations Program is doing to Make Peace Happen, in line with the conference theme, Making Peace Happen: New Normals.

The Community Relations Service (CRS) works with local government officials, community leaders, and law enforcement to reduce tensions arising from issues of race, color, and national origin. CRS also works with local communities in support of their efforts to prevent and respond to violent hate crimes committed on the basis of race, color, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, and disability. CRS has 15 offices throughout the country, and provides its services free of charge to the parties.

Mr. Lum was appointed by President Obama in 2012 to lead America’s peacemaking agency. Mr. Lum appropriately brings a background in alternative dispute resolution to the Department of Justice. He is a previous director for the Center for Negotiation and Dispute Resolution at University of California Hastings School of Law where he was also a clinical law professor. While there, the Center received recognition from the U. S. News and World Report as being a top law school dispute resolution program, the first time the school had been so honored. Director Lum was also co-manager of the Stanford Law School Alternative Dispute Resolution externship program.
