Job: Conflict Resolution Network Coordinator - Tanenbaum - New York

THE ORGANIZATION

The Tanenbaum Center for Interreligious Understanding is a secular organization that promotes mutual respect with practical programs that bridge religious difference and combat prejudice in areas of armed conflict, schools, workplaces, and health care settings.

THE PROGRAM

Tanenbaum’s Conflict Resolution program identifies, studies, and supports the work of religious peacemakers in conflict zones around the world. Our initiatives with and on behalf of these women and men promote religious peacemaking as a legitimate and sometimes necessary component of conflict resolution/transformation, peace building and Track II (citizen) diplomacy.

The Peacemakers in Action Network is a newly established interactive way in which Tanenbaum will work with its Peacemakers. The Network is intended to enable Tanenbaum’s Peacemakers to collaborate with one another to provide mutual support and to share complementary skills in resolving conflict.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Tanenbaum-based Network Coordinator will report to the Assistant Director of the Conflict Resolution program and to the Director of Programs, and will work closely with the CEO. The Coordinator will help systematize and coordinate communications and collaboration among Tanenbaum’s Peacemakers, organize and coordinate meetings, and manage and document projects that emerge from the Network.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Providing Peacemaker Support/Coordinating the Network

  • Establishing communication among all of the Peacemakers, between the Peacemakers and Tanenbaum, and with appropriate outside individuals and organizations.
  • Maintaining regular contact with the Peacemakers to build relationships, field their requests for assistance and gather information on their current projects and ideas.
  • Identifying, recommending and/or coordinating approved/funded collaborations and networking opportunities by the Peacemakers (including on-the-ground interventions).
  • Overseeing a regular technological assessment of Peacemakers needs and abilities and determining respective preferred communication methods, communication patterns and training needs.
  • Providing, coordinating and/or facilitating training in skill sets that are useful to the Peacemakers, as necessary
  • Documenting activities and significant communication within the Network, including managing dissemination of information.
  • Communicating regularly with Tanenbaum staff, specifically the CEO, the Director of Programs, the Assistant Program Director and the Communications department.

Fundraising Support

  • Working with Development Department staff to identify and seek funding for the Network, Working Retreats, and for Peacemaker interventions.
  • Where appropriate, linking Peacemakers with potential funders.

Promoting the Network/Religious Peacemaking/Peacemakers

  • Drafting Network success stories for Tanenbaum’s website in a compelling manner and for other appropriate external resources to promote the Network, the Peacemakers, the work of religiously-motivated peace builders and the vocation of religious peacemaking.
  • Staying abreast of Peacemaker’s profiles, their organizations and their activities and regularly updating web content and files.
  • Evaluating and documenting the Network’s progress in achieving the goals established by the Peacemakers and by Tanenbaum.
  • Consulting with supervisors regarding Network decisions or projects that involve financial expenditures
  • Participating in other tasks as required to support the Conflict Resolution Program and promote Tanenbaum.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Commitment to the mission and goals of Tanenbaum.
  • Master’s degree in international relations, religion and conflict resolution, or related fields
  • 1-2 years international experience, preferably in the developing world
  • Experience in a multi-cultural setting, including demonstrated excellent communication skills with people whose first language is not English
  • Ability to communicate confidently and professionally, with the Peacemakers as well as senior experts and VIPs
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, and ability to write in both formal and informal voice
  • Highly organized, extremely detail-oriented and self-motivated
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate networks.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • A self-starter with strong follow through
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and to manage group assignments
  • Foreign language skills a plus
  • Ability to represent Tanenbaum and the Conflict Resolution program in a professional manner at all times
  • Quick learner
  • Computer skills, including Windows, MS Word, Excel and Internet research
  • A sense of humor

WORK PRODUCT

All work produced for Tanenbaum by the Network Coordinator is the work product of Tanenbaum and may not be used by the Network Coordinator outside of Tanenbaum-authorized activities.

COMPENSATION

The Network Coordinator may expect to receive a salary, commensurate with experience, in accordance with Tanenbaum’s pay scale.
