Werner Institute, School of Law earn encouraging rankings from U.S. News & World Report

The Werner Institute earned a No. 15 ranking in the 2017 U.S. News & World Report rankings for Best Dispute Resolution Programs. The Werner Institute at the Creighton University School of Law ranked 15th in the 2017 U.S. News & World Report rankings for Best Dispute Resolution Programs.

The ranking puts Creighton’s program on a footing with similar programs at Harvard University, Northwestern University, Pepperdine University and Marquette University. As an interdisciplinary program guided by Ignatian values in settling conflict, the Werner Institute offers a cutting-edge approach to dispute resolution, said Jacqueline N. Font-Guzmán, J.D., Ph.D., interim director of the Werner Institute.

“Creighton’s dispute resolution program has repeatedly appeared on the U.S. News short list, a testament to the excellent work of our entire faculty in helping students, and a recognition of their accomplishments as teachers, scholars, and practitioners in the field,” Font-Guzmán said.

Rankings are based on nominations and votes from legal educators across the nation.

Founded in 2005, thanks to a generous gift from the family of Creighton University alumna Gail Werner Robertson, the Werner Institute offers a Master of Science in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution and a Graduate Certificate in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution. Classes are available both in-person on the Creighton campus and online.

The Creighton Law School also earned a ranking of No. 106 in U.S. News’ 2017 Law School rankings. The figure represents a seven-spot jump from last year’s ranking.

“While no single number or ranking defines us as a community, we should take a moment to celebrate the good work and accomplishments of our faculty, staff, students and alumni that this ranking imperfectly reflects,” said Paul McGreal, J.D., dean of the School of Law. “As we do so, though, our pride remains in our mission of educating men and women for others, as well as the profound impact that this good work has on the legal profession and the communities in which our alumni make their homes.”
