Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR) Conference 2014

Join Community Day October 8, 2014, presented by the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR) Community Section, on October 8, 2014 at the Cincinnati Hilton Netherland Plaza Hotel in Cincinnati, Ohio for its cutting-edge conflict resolution training and knowledge integration presented by community mediation experts from diverse programs and geographical locations. Examine important questions inherent in: the expanding definition of community mediation; managing mediators and mediation in Community-based programs and initiatives; strategies for creating conflict resolution cooperative classrooms; and moving from traditional to new partnerships in enhancing stability of community through stable housing. Listen to Karmit Bulman on ACR Blog Radio where she speaks about Community Day on Wednesday, October 8, 2014, the joint meeting with the National Association for Community Mediation (NAFCM) on Wednesday evening, and the expanded Community programing, with its expert presenters, from Thursday to Saturday, October 9-11, 2014. ACR’s Community Section is a part of ACR - a dynamic, non-profit organization focused on alternative dispute resolution (ADR) with a membership comprised of conflict management and resolution practitioners from across the United States and around the world who work as mediators, negotiators, arbitrators, collaborative professionals, educators, trainers, conflict coaches, and volunteers, amongst other ADR work.

Community Day and Community sessions, and each ACR Conference 2014 Program from October 8-11, 2014 are all geared to extensive educational and professional development opportunities with some 90 sessions, an outstanding Youth Day Program for local students and a motivating keynote address. We are pleased to announce that this year's Keynote speaker is Tim Wise, a prominent anti-racist writer, educator, consultant and advocate who leads off the Diversity Theme for Thursday, October 9. Thursday closes with an exciting ACR initiative: New Voices which honors seven graduate students/new practitioners whose work was selected in a juried competition for presentation at the Conference. Friday is dedicated to Bullying in all its aspects: for youth, business, family, sports, schools, and other places and ages from childhood to the elderly where bullying is found together with the special Youth Day Program. Saturday has a focus on both general and special sessions. All of this engages community at its core.

Come and learn about other special Conference program sessions which point to community: Healthcare; Transformational Mediation Approaches in Working with High Conflict Parties; Environmental (EPP); Commercial; Workplace; International; Rebuilding Harmony in Houses of Worship: Resolving Conflicts in Religious Congregations; and Conflict Coaching for Special Educators/Parents of Children with Special Needs, amongst other focused sessions at ACR Conference 2014. ACR’s Conference 2014 Program is representative of research, policy, practice or skill development in diverse areas and approaches.
