Americans for Informed Democracy is a national non-profit organization that empowers and equips young people in the United States to address global challenges such as poverty,
disease, climate change, and conflict through awareness and action. Through
awareness-raising and action, we promote just and sustainable solutions on
campuses, in communities, and nationally.

The Global Peace and Security (GPS) Fellow will lead efforts to plan, develop
and implement programming that engages college youth in issues of democracy,
security, peacekeeping and nuclear proliferation. Our GPS program also has a
strong focus on building cross-cultural understanding, in particular between
the US and the Muslim worlds.

Responsibilities:
• Identify key issues and advocacy opportunities;
• Build and maintain partnerships with key partners: civil society groups,
campaigns, student organizations, government actors, etc.;
• Develop and implement programming to support student engagement around peace
and security issues. This may include offering support understanding the
issues, doing advocacy, planning events, etc.;
• Support AIDemocracy’s strategic planning for the 2010-11 academic year;
• Provide general administrative and logistical support to the GPS Program;
• Serve as point of contact for general inquiries regarding the program and
related events;
• Assist with website and other communications and outreach tasks.

Skills and Qualifications:
• Strong relevant academic or professional experience with peace and security
issues;
• Experience organizing students, doing advocacy or working on social justice
issues;
• Computer and internet competency. Web 2.0 skills a plus;
• Strong organizational skills, meticulous accuracy and attention to detail;
• Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to effectively work
with diverse groups;
• Interpersonal skills to work productively and independently in a busy
environment;
• Ability to research and report on assigned topics briefly and accurately.

This is a part or full time position (30-40 hours/week). Fellows receive a
$1000 monthly stipend.
