Metropolitan Mediation Services (M.M.S.) has offered mediation services in the Greater Boston area for over twenty years. M.M.S. provides services to businesses, government
agencies, schools, courts, and social service agencies, as well as individuals
from greater Boston neighborhoods and families. We also provide training to
business people, attorneys, judges, mental health professionals and educators.

The summer intern will work 15 hours per week beginning May 15, 2010 and ending
August 15 2010, (dates and weekly hours flexible). The nature of this position
requires someone who can work very independently with a flexible schedule based
on office needs and deadlines.

Intern’s responsibilities will be customized to fit intern’s strengths,
interests and the organization’s current needs. Interns will gain direct
insight into the operations of a non-profit community mediation center. Likely
opportunities and responsibilities include:

• Weekly or bi-weekly observation and/or co-mediation in small claims court
• Community outreach (marketing) to increase awareness of services and
trainings
• Help with setup of trainings
• Assembly of training manuals
• Office work including phone, filing, updating database
• Internet research

We are seeking an intern:

• With an interest in community mediation and conflict resolution
• With excellent communication skills – verbal and written
• Who is technologically savvy. Applicants should at minimum be versed in
Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Expertise in Microsoft Access and Web
Design will be given heightened consideration.
• With Language skills in Spanish, Portuguese and/or Haitian-Creole a plus.
• Pursuing a J.D., M.B.A or other advanced degree. Exemplary undergraduates may
be considered.
