The Richmond Peace Education Center seeks a summer intern to:
* Support peace and justice programs;
* Help plan and organize the Family Peace Festival, a city-wide inter-faith
community event;
* Perform community and campus outreach;
* Support fundraising projects;
* Contribute to the bimonthly newsletter;
* Assist with various office tasks including data entry, mailings, and
answering phones.
* Receive conflict resolution training and participate in other programs as
desired.
Founded in 1980 by community members and people of faith concerned about the proliferation
of nuclear weapons, the Richmond Peace Education Center works to advance peace
and justice locally and globally. With over 1100 members, it is the largest,
and the oldest, organization of its kind in the Richmond area. The center
conducts public education on war and militarism and sponsors the Richmond Youth
Peace Project violence prevention and leadership program for teens. The
Richmond Peace Education Center has trained hundreds of community members in
nonviolent conflict resolution techniques over the past year. In addition, it
publishes a bimonthly newsletter.
REQUIREMENTS: Strong organizational and communication skills. Dependable and
detail-oriented. Strong commitment to peace and social justice.
HOURS: 6 to 15 hours per week
