Northern Virginia Mediation Service is a community dispute resolution center in Fairfax, Virginia affiliated with the Institute for Conflict Analysis & Resolution at George Mason University and a member
of the Virginia Association for Community Conflict Resolution. NVMS is
recognized for providing quality mediation programs and training workshops in
mediation, facilitation, negotiation, leadership, and collaborative practices.

Position: NVMS is seeking a mediation case coordinator to manage family and
workplace mediation cases. The case coordinator will work with various types of
clients, professional mediators, local courts and staff to create positive and
effective mediation experiences. NVMS is a small office environment that
promotes a positive team oriented work ethic. In addition to everyone’s primary
responsibilities, all staff members assist with shared office duties such as
answering the phones and greeting clients.

Primary Job Responsibilities:
1. Answer inquiries regarding mediation services.
2. Complete mediation intakes.
3. Coordinate scheduling of mediation sessions.
4. Create and follow up with client payment and mediator stipend reports.
5. Manage case database.
6. Manage family mediation apprenticeship program
7. Supervise intern(s).
8. Participate in outreach efforts to inform the community about mediation
services.
9. Work with Executive Director to further develop mediation programs and
manage mediator roster.

Hours: Full time: hours are typically 9-5, with occasional evening hours for
meetings, training programs, etc.

Compensation: 29K – 31K salary per year (dependent upon experience). Benefits
include 37 paid days off annually (11 holidays; 12 vacation days; 14 personal
days); and the opportunity to accrue compensatory leave; and a monthly payment
of $176 toward health insurance premiums; and the opportunity to attend
training sessions in dispute resolution skills at no charge.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following necessary qualifications combined with one or more of the strongly preferred
qualifications.

Necessary Qualifications:
1. undergraduate degree plus 2 years work experience or equivalent experience;
and
2. proficiency with windows and Microsoft Word and Excel; and
3. strong communication skills and phone presence; and
4. excellent attention to detail; and
5. strong organizational skills; and
6. patience and good listening skills; and
7. emotional maturity; and
8. adaptability.

Strongly Preferred Qualifications:
1. fluency in Spanish;
2. knowledge of the court system;
3. knowledge of mediation;
4. experience with Microsoft Access;
5. experience with case management;
6. experience supervising others.
