North Shore Community Mediation Center seeks a qualified person to fill the position of Peer Mediation Coordinator
North Shore Community Mediation Center has operated an active peer mediation
training program for the past 15 years. Trainings have been held in middle and
high schools, recreational programs and colleges. In 2004 NSCMC formed the
North Shore Peer Mediation Collaborative to support peer mediation programs in
the area and sponsor an Annual Peer Mediators’ Forum to celebrate and educate
the young mediators in the region. We are seeking a person who is passionate
about sharing mediation skills with young people and interested in developing
new ways to broaden the scope of the NSCMC Youth Initiative.
The Peer Mediation Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the development of
the Center’s Youth Initiative. The person in this position will coordinate all
peer mediation trainings in local middle and high schools and work
cooperatively with all agencies, youth programs, camps and other private and
public organizations which serve youth in Essex County.
Outreach: Responsible for marketing peer mediation to school systems and youth
organizations across the North Shore. This involves setting up meetings with
administrators of schools to understand their needs and to explain peer
mediation how peer mediation can benefit their school. Applicant must be
comfortable with initiating contact and developing relationships with potential
partners.
Outreach also involves contacting businesses and organizations for financial
support of their local school’s peer mediation programs.
Training: Responsible for curriculum design, training organization and
delivery, and evaluation and assessment of 20-Hour Peer Mediation Training.
Curriculum: Responsible for adapting the current peer mediation curriculum to
the specific needs of an organization; ability to select appropriate training
materials, including role-plays, exercises, videos and other teaching tools;
ability to collaborate with NSCMC staff and training volunteers on training
design.
Training Delivery: Act as Lead Trainer and demonstrate organized and
professional conduct and respectfulness of trainees at all times; ability to
manage an agenda and maintain group momentum and energy; ability to present
concepts clearly and to handle a range of questions; ability to provide
constructive feedback to trainees and to coach effectively during role-playing;
ability to be flexible in response to needs of trainees; ability to create a
safe environment in which participants might try out new skills and take risks;
ability to collaborate with NSCMC staff in training delivery and consult with
members of the NSCMC Training Team to ensure a consistent approach.
Evaluation and Assessment: Ability to participate in evaluation of training,
make recommendations for improvement and implement improvements in subsequent
training sessions if applicable; ability to evaluate performance of trainees and
provide written summary assessment of each participant
Development: Responsible for researching and developing new approaches and
ideas to conflict resolution programming for schools and youth organizations.
Responsible for collaboration with local colleges and other community
organizations.

• Excellent communication and computer skills
• Strong ability to market and promote a program
• Experience with youth, youth programs and curriculum
• Training and experience as a mediator
• Familiarity with middle and high schools, state government, municipal
government and/or courts
• Four year college degree
