Government Relations Coordinator – INTERNSHIP – Boston, MA

AIC seeks a government relation’s coordinator for our Boston, MA office. The position is flexible in regards to schedule and number of hours worked per week, although the ideal candidate will be able to work 20-30 hours a week. All internships are unpaid. Deadlines are rolling but summer internships tend to fill up quickly.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Government Relations Coordinator who will be responsible for providing support to the Outreach Director establishing and maintaining relationships with members of the Massachusetts State Legislator and their staff; and developing and driving strategies on key issues assigned. Other duties may include:

- Build meaningful relationships with members of Congress and their staff

- Facilitate meetings between AIC staff and key government contacts for the purpose of briefing AIC’s position

- Attend relevant meetings / briefings in order to be fully informed on various issues

- Manage a tracking database for government contacts

- Establish good relationships with partner organizations that may have similar goals

- Plan the yearly Massachusetts’ Salute to Ramadan event at the Massachusetts State House

Qualifications:

- Strong interest in public policy and politics

- Knowledge of current events in the Middle East

- Knowledge of the Muslim – American Community

- Strong verbal, written communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills as well as project management, planning and human relations’ skills are required

- Outstanding analytical and judgment/decision-making skills

- Ability to set and meet goals and objectives

- Strong commitment to AIC’s goals and missions

- Exposure to broad-based issues including the legislative and political process and environment, and an understanding of the factors affecting legislative policy developments.
