I am sure everyone has heard that Apple's iPad was launched today.  Does anyone plan to buy it?  As an admitted tech junkie, I say no way.

iPad review from Engadget [here].

If I plan to buy a tablet, which of course I do not need, I think I will wait for the HP Slate Tablet as it will be able to run windows and flash websites.

Read more about the HP Slate Tablet [here].

What does everyone think?

Could a mediator use either?

Perhaps instead of a pad and pen, could it help with writing notes, keeping track of files... watching a movie during a dull case ;) ?

Nobody would watch movies during a dull case, now, would they? :-)

As for the iPad, I've actually had my hands on one and I have to admite it was pretty cool! I will not buy one, however, until it will multitask and either run Flash or HTML5 becomes standard so we don't have to use the Flash battery-killer to view most sites. Obviously, I, too, am a tech junkie.

Hello, my name is Tonya and I am a technologyoholic.

It could be handy during a mediation or negotiation for taking notes, looking up information that was not readily accessible that might be useful during the process, or for just checking email or online voicemail during breaks. Of course, you could also do all this on a laptop or even a netbook, so at this point, why spend the money? Unless you are just into the coolness factof, or are an Apple fanboy who much buy everything that Steve releases!

Tonya,

Looks like they will get multi tasking after all. I read over the weekend it, along with the iphone will have it in the next few months.

still not convinced though with no camera so no skyping and no USB ports. Really, shocking it lacks both.
Th at's exactly why I am waiting for at least second generation, if not third! They have to add a camera and multitasking or I am just not very interested. Plus, is it really much more than an iPhone on steroids? I am still struggling with the dilemma of do I switch to AT&T so I can get an iPhone or just upgrade to a Blackberry with my current provider? LOL! Anyway, it is a great device, but it's just not there yet. I can't wait to see what HP brings with their tablet!

As a party I would be a litte concerrned with an arbitrator was spending a lot of time with his iPad during a hearing. This beautiful device is basically for entertainment. It is less than ideal for typing notes having only a virtual keyboard. This is a real challenger for Kindle and Nook, but not a very professional device to have at an arbitration hearing.
