Program Description:
A ten-month paid fellowship program that will train Oakland's young leaders (ages 15 - 18) to develop and advocate for policies that bring peace and hope to our streets. Through this exciting new program, Ella Baker Center will continue its legacy as a training ground for social justice leaders, and Heal the Streets Fellows will have the opportunity to tap into our staff's experience working on the front lines of public policy reform.

Vision and Aspirations of Heal the Streets
• Maintain a group of youth (ages 15-18) within Oakland that can react and proactively advocate for social justice within the context of violence prevention and community building
• Train youth to be the next civic leaders within the city of Oakland
• Educate and guide youth leaders about issues that are important to them and their peers while applying their newly acquired skill sets to applicable solutions
• Organize community members and stakeholders to mentor youth in their career goals and advancement into higher education
• Engage partner organizations to actively invest their time and resources to engage youth of color within Oakland to assist them in working against injustices.

Intern Duties may include but are not limited too:
• Help co-facilitate, design and implement focus groups, workshops and other participatory research projects with the HTS fellows;
• Produce monthly reports on the research you’ve done on the issue of violence prevention in the form of a publishable research paper, blog, or outreach email;
• Communicate and network with local public officials, community leaders and other youth serving organizations in the area
• General administrative duties when necessary;
• Attend all Ella Baker Center events, training and mixers;
• Represent EBC at job fairs, resource fairs or community events;
• Assist Program Coordinator with program duties as needed.
• Attend all HTS team meetings and monthly trainings. Team meetings are Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 -6 p.m. Monthly trainings are to be announced.
