Neuropsychology of ODR

During this webinar, Ana Gonçalves and François Bogacz will present how learning about brain science can help online mediation professionals reflect on their practice and test new approaches. We will present key neuroprinciples that may impact the behavior, perspective and attitude of neutrals and parties during online ADR and ODR processes and will discuss how to take them into account.

Greetings, the archive for this session is now available for viewing. Simply click play on the video player above. You may continue the conversation in this forum by providing any comment or questions that arise. Enjoy! Bryan

I thoroughly enjoyed watching the ODR online presentation regarding the neuroscience involved, principles, and knowledge heretofore that I was unaware of; the brain research is of enormous value in understanding and appreciating all that is taking place in this environment, absent of being face to face.  Indeed, being aware in an online environment is equally important as is preparation and managing the entire process.  Kudos to these two very highly trained and skilled professionals for sharing this rich knowledge.  Again, thank you!  I learned enormously.

Anthony McNeill, MPA

Thanks for viewing the archive and providing the reply Anthony. The expansive neuroscience research that is coming out is very relevant to what we do as conflict practitioners both in person and online as Ana and Francois presented. You may have read them already, but I highly encourage checking out a couple books if you find this subject relates well to your practice. The first is one of the original texts looking at our responses to conflict situations, Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman; and Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman. Both of these texts drive home the importance of increasing our awareness of our responses to stressful situations and how we can make more constructive decisions. Be well, Bryan

Thanks for your kind feedback, Anthony. I will add to what Bryan said above that you will find on our website a complete list of our book recommendations .
