Algoma University is committed to the just and fair treatment of each and every member of the university community. In keeping with this commitment, Algoma University and the Algoma University Student Union (AUSU) are seeking a person to be the first Ombudsperson at Algoma University.
This is an initial 4-month contract for a pilot project. The Ombudsperson shall maintain office hours on campus for three (3) to six (6) hours per week, $5,000.00 for the term of the contract.
Contract Term: mid-August 2010 to mid-December 2010
Responsibilities:
Working independently, the Algoma University Ombudsperson shall receive any enquiries and complaints on any matter from members of the Algoma University community. The Ombudsperson shall act as an impartial and objective third party who shall attempt to provide all possible assistance to a client so that the clients may act on their own behalf.
In addition, the Ombudsperson is to make recommendations, where appropriate, for changes in university policies and procedures and to promote discussion on institution-wide concerns. She/he will be responsible for developing the communication strategy and profile as the first Ombudsperson.
