Zena Zumeta, who is a Mediator and Mediation Trainer, has released a new learning module providing tips for framing issues during mediation. While she uses a hypothetical casee of a divorcing couple as an example, her tips are useful for all contexts. Zena's Eight Rules of Framing is a 10 minute module that walks one through each rule

Go to http://learn2mediate.com/online/framing/player.html for the eight rules of framing:

  1. Deal with one issue at a time;
  2. Ask it neutrally;
  3. Make it mutual;
  4. Be short and clear;
  5. Make sure it's their issue, not yours;
  6. Focus on the future;
  7. Get to the how; and
  8. Frame it, do not solve it.

Hi Jeff,

I know Zena through my local mediation center; I am signed up for her facilitation class this week. Do you want me to ask her to do a guest blog?
Susan,

Yes, please do invite her- the more the merrier! :)
